Ithaca/Tompkins Continuum of Care Announces 2007 Funding Awards (Posted on 01/08/08)

The Ithaca / Tompkins County Continuum of Care (CoC) has announced that they have been awarded $259,133 by the US Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) under the 2007 Continuum of Care competitive grants process which provides permanent and transitional housing to homeless persons.

The Ithaca / Tompkins County CoC (40 agency representatives and community leaders), coordinated by the Human Services Coalition of Tompkins County, identifies gaps in services, designs strategies that will provide for the needs of homeless individuals, particularly the chronically homeless, and helps them move to self-sufficiency and permanent housing.

The following organizations received funding awards: $115,674 - Community Housing of Ithaca, Inc. (CHI), 618 W. State St., for construction of a 6-bed SRO to provide permanent housing for homeless individuals (a portion of the proposed 18-bed Red Cross Emergency shelter); $60,126 - Tompkins Community Action, Inc., Chartwell House, 322 N. Meadow St., one-year supportive services renewal for a 12-bed permanent supportive housing SRO for homeless individuals; $83,333 - Tompkins Community Action, Inc., Transitional Housing Program for Families, one-year supportive services renewal for a 6-unit (21 beds) transitional housing program for homeless families leasing apartments on a countywide scattered site basis.
